Professional Development

FACC's professional development programs include activities that allow participants to focus on concerns related to the community college, to benefit from a concentration of relevant experiences, and to share experiences and expertise with peers. These programs include the Annual Convention, conferences, seminars, institutes, regional meetings, commission meetings, and recognition award programs.

Leadership Conference - The annual Leadership Conference is held in January or February each year to provide an overview of issues and concerns facing Florida's community college system. Sessions designed for new chapter, region, commission and committee leadership assist new leadership to understand the roles and responsibilities of thier position.  It also is an opportunity for new FACC leaders to develop their leadership skills and to assist in establishing goals for FACC.

Legislative Session Preview - The annual Legislative Session Preview is held in conjunction with the Leadership Training Conference prior to the opening of the legislative session in order to prepare FACC leaders for their involvement in FACC's Legislative advocacy efforts. This session also provides an opportunity to brief FACC members on the Legislative Budget Request and the substantive legislative agenda.

Membership Development Conference - This conference is designed to assist chapter, region, and commission leadership in designing a blueprint for a successful membership drive.  Presenters share best practices in membership development. Attendees are introduced to the Membership Toolbox and demonstrations of the FACC tools that are available to promote membership.  Dress is casual for these active sessions!

Annual Convention - The FACC Annual Convention is a place for all members to interact with each other, to share resources and technology, and to devise solutions to common challenges. It is also an opportunity for official delegates to conduct the business of the Association and to elect state officers for the coming year. The FACC Annual Convention includes committee and commission meetings, daily planning sessions, notable speakers, vendor exhibits, a technology demonstration area, and special interest sessions where colleagues present their exemplary practices. There's also ample time for fun!

Commission Mid-Year/Spring Conferences - At least once annually, each FACC commission holds a  conference devoted to the professional development of commission members. In many instances, the workshops and conferences may count toward certification.

Region Mid-Year/Spring  Conferences - To provide an opportunity for colleges within the same geographic area to network and share innovations, each FACC region hosts a mid-year conference in April or May.

Legislative Planning Summit - This conference brings together the stakeholders in development of the legislative agenda.  The FACC board, Council of Presidents, Trustee chairs, college lobbyists, and FJCCSGA representatives discuss items to include in the Association's legislative agenda.  Presenters review the legislative budget request and substantive issues.  The Legislative Planning Summit is usually held in September.
